Cupid and Psychedelia

When drafting a cover for my latest freebie short story, I created many, many, many variations of the cover. Most looked pretty awful, but some of them had a certain psychedelic charm that reminded me of 1960s psychedelic poster art. All of these images use (we could say misuse, even abuse) the lovely painting “Cupid and Psyche” by Francois Giraud.

I've added some of these alternative covers to this post. Feel free to do whatever you like with them. All these images are licensed under a Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 4.0 license–please just link back to this page (or when you use them.Cupid and Psyche embracing.

Cupid and Psyche on Wattpad

Cover of Cupid and Psyche, showing Cupid, a handsome young man with red wings, kissing Psyche, a beautiful blonde girl. Both are nude.I've just published my own retelling of Cupid and Psyche on Wattpad. It's pretty faithful to the original, with a few embellishments here and there. I wrote this version for a romance novel, so I tailored this version to fit the novel's themes and motifs.

I hope you enjoy reading it. It was surprisingly enjoyable to write. I'd like to write more romantic retellings of myths and fairy tales, because I had so much fun with this one.

It's also amazing how much the story of Cupid and Psyche influenced later fairy tales, particularly Beauty and the Beast. I recognized a lot of influences from both stories when I read A Court of Thorns and Roses last week. What can I say, great stories last for a reason.

You can read my story here. Feel free to leave a comment on Wattpad or on this blog post. If you're a Wattpad member, I'd appreciate it if you'd vote for the story and add it to a reading list. I'm still new to Wattpad, and it's been interesting learning about it as I go.
